Camp Description

Spectacular! Masters Camp: Hairspray (Girls)
CharacterWorks is delighted to present Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical! Hairspray takes place in Baltimore, 1962, in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. The lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad desires to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and alongside her friends, fight for racial integration. Hairspray resurfaces a history of how discrimination in pop culture intimately shaped the lives of young people 50 years ago. This energetic musical is filled with heart, romance and deliriously tuneful songs that audiences will love.

Spectacular! Masters Camp is a 2 1/2-week summer performing arts camp for high school students. Camp will be held in the summer with 4 stage performances for the community the final weekend. The cost for the 16-day camp and production is $580 ($290 camp tuition is due when registering online and a $290 production fee is due by May 1). All students registered in camp will be cast in the show and must audition in a group setting, though no preparation is necessary for this type of audition.
