Class Description

Academy Advanced Acting through Song - This class is full. Auditions for our ACADEMY program take place the previous June and students remain in the same class for all 3 sessions (fall, winter, spring).

This year's advanced acting academy class will focus on acting through song. Students will learn how to work for an objective, use different tactics, 'fill the air', and use the music itself to make acting choices.  During our fall session students will explore the similarities and differences in acting a song and acting a monologue.  Each student will perform an 'audition package' of a short song and monologue at fall showcase.  The second two sessions will focus on putting together the musical Little Women.  This show has a cast of 10 and is full of solos, duets, and 'small ensemble' songs.  Every character in Little Women has at least one duet and multiple scenes, which will allow the opportunity for each student to apply principals of acting taught throughout the class.  The class will perform the full musical at our Academy Festival in the spring.
Prerequisite: Audition only - this class is full!

Rebecca McNamee

Becky started dancing at 3 years old after she saw Singin' In The Rain and never looked back. She graduated with a BA in Musical Theater from James Madison University in 2009. Becky was fortunate enough to direct as well as perform at school and found that she loved teaching and directing as much as she loved performing. Becky performed professionally at various regional theaters and in DC before moving to Richmond. Some of her favorite past roles include Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Hunyak in Chicago, Rusty in Footloose, and Sally in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. She enjoys sharing her love of Jesus and performing with her students both in our Academy class program and as a show director. Becky and her husband, Shane, have 2 daughters, Emma and Clara.
