Description

Dialect and accent are defining qualities, infusing your character with an indication of geography, time period, socio-economic background, culture, and individual personality. Actors often take shortcuts to quickly imitate a dialect in an audition situation, but the key to mastering any dialect is learning the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Students will also study techniques of defining the vocal posture, rhythm, music, lilt, and physicality inherent to several American and European accents. With these acting fundamentals under your belt, you'll have the tools necessary to learn any dialect for your next character! Students will perform a scene or monologue with at least one accent/dialect explored.
