Description

This 8-week film class will teach students how to write a 5 page short film screenplay that showcases an understanding of on screen storytelling. In addition, students will also learn beginner camera composition, lighting techniques, and on-set shooting principles as the class records and adapts the final screenplay into a short film. The writing prompt for this screenplay is “Ensemble cast murder mystery!”

*It is preferred that students bring personal or family laptops for this class and have personal email addresses for in class assignments that require collaborative screenwriting.

*It is recommended that students take this class in tandem with “Cinematography and Editing” in the same time slot during the spring session, which will serve as a part 2 for this class, although it's not required.

SPRING FILM CLASS: Cinematography and Editing
This 8-week class will wrap out what the class from “Screenwriting and cinematography” started as students finish shooting their short film. This class will continue to teach students more camera techniques and shooting principles. The bulk of this class will also focus on the process of editing, audio patching, coloring, and stylizing the students’ final short film.
*It is preferred that students bring personal or family devices (laptops, iPhones, iPads, etc) for the editing portion of this class so that students may all participate in the editing process equally.

*It is also recommended that students who took “Screenwriting and cinematography” commit to taking this class as well.
