Summer is best spent with CWorks! We have a jam-packed summer planned for campers ages 6-19. The best place to explore theatre and grow with friends and camp leaders is at CharacterWorks, where summer isn’t just sweet – it’s Spectacular! 

2020 Spring/Summer Registration Schedule

  • Wednesday, 1/29, 5PM - Show Camp Registration Opens
  • Saturday, 2/1, 5PM - Spring Class, Spectacular Kids Camp, Broadway Camp, & Viewpoint Camp Registrations Open
  • Sunday, 2/2,  4-5PM - Early Masters Camp Registration (current 11th-12th grade students in the 2019-2020 school year)
  • Sunday, 2/2, 5PM - General Masters Camp Registration Opens (current 8th-12th grade students in the 2019-2020 school year)

Spectacular Kids Camp (ages 6-11): Disney's The Lion King KIDS

Spectacular Kids Camp is a week-long musical theatre summer day camp, with multiple weeks and locations throughout Richmond. At Spectacular Kids Camp, campers join a team for the week and participate in team competitions, a daily Bible-based devotional, and rotations through drama, dance, singing, and craft classes. The week ends with a spectacular 30-minute showcase for family and friends.

Spectacular Kids Camp 2020 will feature The Lion King KIDS! Music and characters from Disney's acclaimed movies are adapted in this popular beloved show. The African savannah comes to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again in this inspiring coming-of-age tale.

Spectacular Kids Camp is $250 per camper and includes a camp t-shirt, personal show script, craft materials, and daily snacks. Camp runs Monday-Friday, usually from 9:30-3:30 each day

Broadway Camp (ages 10-13): Highlights from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Broadway Camp is a one-week-only musical theatre extravaganza in Richmond’s West End. In this week-long camp, campers will compete in team competitions, learn in Bible-based devotions, and rotate through workshops in drama, dance, singing, and crafts, working toward putting together an end-of-week musical review for friends and families.

Broadway Camp 2020 will feature musical highlights from smash-hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! Journey with Joseph through the many highs and lows of his life as he learns to trust God and his goodness no matter the circumstances. Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this incredible tale of God’s sovereignty and timing is sure to be a new Broadway Camp favorite.

Broadway Camp - June 15-19 (Shady Grove United Methodist Church) 9:30AM-3:30PM

Broadway Camp is $250 per camper and includes a camp t-shirt, craft materials, and daily snacks. Camp runs Monday-Friday from 9:30-3:30 each day.

Middle School* Show Camp: Disney's My Son Pinocchio JR.

Kick it to the next level with Show Camp! This two-week performing arts camp for middle school* students is dedicated to producing a fully-staged musical featuring every student in camp. At Show Camp, campers spend a week in show rehearsals, Bible-based devotions, and intense team competitions, before coming back for a second week to put the show on stage for a three-performance weekend. Featuring sets, lights, mics, costumes, props, and of course, campers, a Show Camp musical is an amazing August event that builds performance skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships.

CharacterWorks' 2020 Show Camp is performing Disney's My Son Pinocchio JR., a creative and magical retelling of the classic story, Pinocchio. Past shows have included Disney's Alice in Wonderland JR.Junie B. Jones The Musical JR., and Disney's Mulan JR., among others.

Show Camp is $550, with $275 (tuition) due at registration and $275 (production fee) due May 30th (the day before auditions).

*Students must be rising 6th-current 8th grades when registering (ages 11-14).

High School* Masters Camp: Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Masters Camp is the capstone of the CWorks summer camp program. In this 2-1/2-week performing arts camp, high school* students master their musical theater skills, including singing, dancing, and acting, while working toward a weekend of performances of a full-length, fully-stage musical at Henrico High School's Center for the Arts. Featuring team competitions, Bible-based devotions and testimonies, and a rigorous but rewarding rehearsal schedule, Masters Camp shows students just how spectacular they can be by honing their performance skills, building their confidence, fostering lifelong friendships, and showing them the value they have in Jesus Christ.

CharacterWorks' 2020 Masters Camp will be performing The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on the Victor Hugo novel and the Disney animated film. Past Masters Camps have performed Les Miserables School EditionHairspray, and West Side Story, among others.

View 2020 Masters Camp Schedule

Masters Camp is $600, with $300 (tuition) due at registration and $300 (production fee) due on April 25 (the day before auditions).

*Students must be rising 9th-current 12th grades when registering (ages 14-19).

High School* Viewpoint Camp

Viewpoint Camp is a four-day, three-night camp retreat for students ages 14-19, and has become a favorite memory of many CWorks students. Go all-out in water games, mountain hiking, pool time, camp-wide night wars, and intense team-building games in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Plus, spend time in worship, devotions, Bible-teaching specially curated for high school students, as well as theater workshops culminating in an inspiring musical showcase on the last day. Filled with fellowship and fun, Viewpoint Camp is the ultimate CWorks getaway. 

Viewpoint Camp - August 19-22 (Crossroads Camp in Lowesville, VA)

Viewpoint Camp is $300 per camper.

*Students must be rising 9th-current 12th grades when registering (ages 14-19).
