Summer is best spent with CWorks! We have a jam-packed summer planned for campers ages 6-19. The best place to explore theatre and grow with friends and camp leaders is at CharacterWorks, where summer isn’t just sweet – it’s Spectacular!

Spectacular Kids Camp: Disney's 101 Dalmatians KIDS (ages 6-11)

Spectacular Kids Camp is a week-long musical theatre summer day camp, with multiple weeks and locations throughout Richmond. At Spectacular Kids Camp, campers join a team for the week and participate in team competitions, a daily Bible-based devotional, and rotations through drama, dance, singing, and craft classes. The week ends with a spectacular 30-minute showcase for family and friends.

Spectacular Kids Camp Weeks 1-5 will feature 101 Dalmatians KIDS! Disney's classic animated tale of kidnapping villains and courageous puppies is adapted in this fur-raising musical adventure. Have a blast as 101 of the most adorable heroes outwit and escape Disney's most outrageous villain, Cruela De Vil! 

Week 1 - June 17-21 (KingsWay Community Church) 9:30AM-3:30PM

Spectacular Kids Camp is $250 per camper and includes a camp t-shirt, personal show script, craft materials, and daily snacks. Camp runs Monday-Friday from 9:30-3:30 each day (Week 3 at Veritas runs 9:00-3:00 each day).

Spectacular Kids Camp: Annie KIDS (ages 6-11)

Spectacular Kids Camp Week 6 will feature Annie KIDS! Little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Join Annie as she sets out to find her family, meeting billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Ferrell, and scruffy pup Sandy along the way. Featuring hit songs like "Tomorrow," "It's A Hard-Knock Life," and "Little Girls," this show is guaranteed to be a new summer camp favorite!

Week 6 - July 29-August 2 (U-Turn Sports) 9:30AM-3:30PM

Spectacular Kids Camp is $250 per camper and includes a camp t-shirt, personal show script, craft materials, and daily snacks. Camp runs Monday-Friday from 9:30-3:30 each day

Broadway Camp: Highlights from Mary Poppins (ages 10-13)

Broadway Camp is a one-week-only musical theatre extravaganza in Richmond’s West End. In this week-long camp, campers will compete in team competitions, learn in Bible-based devotions, and rotate through workshops in drama, dance, singing, and crafts, working toward putting together an end-of-week musical review for friends and families.

Broadway Camp 2019 will feature musical highlights from the Broadway musical Mary Poppins! Head over the rooftops in themed games and activities while working on a musical review of songs from the beloved Disney story. 

Broadway Camp - July 8-12 (Shady Grove United Methodist Church) 9:30AM-3:30PM

Broadway Camp is $250 per camper and includes a camp t-shirt, craft materials, and daily snacks. Camp runs Monday-Friday from 9:30-3:30 each day.

Show Camp (ages 10-13/rising 6th-9th grades)

Kick it to the next level with Show Camp! This two-week performing arts camp for ages 10-13/rising 6th-9th grade students is dedicated to producing a fully-staged musical featuring every student in camp. At Show Camp, campers spend a week in show rehearsals, Bible-based devotions, and intense team competitions, before coming back for a second week to put the show on stage for a three-performance weekend. Featuring sets, lights, mics, costumes, props, and of course, campers, a Show Camp musical is an amazing August event that builds performance skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships.

CharacterWorks' 2019 Show Camp is performing Disney's Alice in Wonderland JR. Past shows have included Junie B. Jones The Musical JR., Disney's Mulan JR., and You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, among others.

Show Camp is $550, with $275 (tuition) due at registration and $275 (production fee) due May 12 (the day before auditions).

Masters Camp (ages 14-18/rising 9th-12th grades & rising college freshman)

New this year: Two weekends of performances!

Masters Camp is the capstone of the CWorks summer camp program. In this 2-1/2-week performing arts camp, students master their musical theater skills, including singing, dancing, and acting, while working toward a two weekend performance of a full-length, fully-stage musical in the beautiful Lora M. Robins Theatre at The Steward School. Featuring team competitions, Bible-based devotions and testimonies, and a rigorous but rewarding rehearsal schedule, Masters Camp shows students just how spectacular they can be by honing their performance skills, building their confidence, fostering lifelong friendships, and showing them the value they have in Jesus Christ.

CharacterWorks' 2019 Masters Camp will be performing Les Miserables School Edition. Past Masters Camps have performed Hairspray, West Side Story, and Godspell, among others.

AUDITIONS (KingsWay Community Church)
Auditions: Sun, April 28 (3:00-5:00pm Younger Roles) (4:00 - 9:00pm Registered Campers)
Callbacks: Sun, May 5 (2:00 - 9:00pm) & Mon, May 6 (5:00 - 9:00pm)
Masters Camp is $580, with $290 (tuition) due at registration and $290 (production fee) due on April 27 (the day before auditions).
 
*Auditions for young Cosette, young Eponine and Gavroche will be held on Sunday, April 28th from 3:00-5:00pm at Kingsway Community Church. Students ages 8-13 are eligible to audition and will need to arrive at 3:00pm. Auditions will be run in a callback setting where the music director will teach the kids a portion of the music and hear them each sing. Girls should familiarize themselves with the song "Castle on a Cloud" and boys should familiarize themselves with the song "Little People" from Les Miserables. After the initial audition, students may be called back to be seen again during the additional callback times, Sunday, May 5th from 2:00pm-9:00pm and Monday, May 6th from 5-9pm.

Students cast in one of the younger roles will be required to be at all of tech week, but will only be called for 3-4 half days during the initial week of camp (TBD), including the first night of camp, Friday, June 14 from 5-9pm. They will only need to pay the $290 production fee to participate in the limited rehearsal days and the production. Viewpoint Camp (ages 14-19)

Viewpoint Camp is a four-day, three-night camp retreat for students ages 14-19, and has become a favorite memory of many CWorks students. Go all-out in water games, mountain hiking, pool time, camp-wide night wars, and intense team-building games in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Plus, spend time in worship, devotions, Bible-teaching specially curated for high school students, as well as theater workshops culminating in an inspiring musical showcase on the last day. Filled with fellowship and fun, Viewpoint Camp is the ultimate CWorks getaway. 

Viewpoint Camp - August 14-17 (Crossroads Camp in Lowesville, VA)

Viewpoint Camp is $300 per camper.

Scholarships

Financial assistance or partial scholarships are available for those in need, and sibling discounts are available to families for class tuition. Email donna@cworkstheater.org with questions regarding the availability of a scholarship.
