My Son Pinocchio JR. Audition Information

If you are registered for 2021's Show Camp, congratulations - you are already cast in the show! These auditions will help us determine the best fit in the show for each camper.

Auditions for My Son Pinocchio JR. include two steps:
  • Record a singing audition video using the provided song selections below.
  • Fill out the Audition Form (includes student info, costume info, and parent committee info) and upload your singing audition video to the form.
Both parts of your audition (audition form and video) are due at midnight on Monday, May 17th.

Audition Video

In your audition video, you will perform a short cut of one or two songs from My Son Pinocchio JRCharacterWorks has provided sheet music, guide vocal tracks, and accompaniment tracks for auditions below. Students should review the music selections from My Son Pinocchio JR. below and perform one or two song edits listed under their gender. Students must choose songs and their respective edits from this list - please do not choose a song from a musical other than My Son Pinocchio JR, and please do not choose an edit other than the edits provided below. Record a video of yourself singing the song or songs with the provided accompaniment track playing in the background (all auditions must include the provided accompaniment tracks). If performing two selections, feel free to go straight from one song to the next, or edit together a single audition video from multiple videos - whatever works best for you. Only one video file is to be submitted, regardless of how many songs are being sung. We encourage you to memorize the music and lyrics as this will help your audition performance, but it isn't necessary.

My Son Pinocchio JR. Song Direction

Empty Heart: In this ballad, Geppetto explains how empty he feels without having a child in his life. The song ends with his wish to have a son. Show us that Geppetto desperately wishes to have his life changed in this way by focusing on his objective - to have a son. This song works best for changed voices.

I've Got No Strings: After leaving home, Pinocchio joins the puppet show of the mad puppeteer Stromboli and performs I've Got No Strings as the centerpiece of the puppet show. This song is all smiles and joy - Pinocchio thinks he's found an awesome new life! This song works best for unchanged voices.

Pleasure Island: In this upbeat, circus-y song, the leader of Pleasure Island's roustabouts, the Ringleader, is making a case for all the reasons Pleasure Island is a haven of fun. Focus on enticing the audience in to join Pleasure Island themselves. This song can be sung in either octave and works for changed or unchanged voices.

Just Because It's Magic: In this fun, show tune-y song, the Blue Fairy teaches Geppetto that magic can be used to solve all his problems. Through this song, the Blue Fairy explains to Geppetto that she's been doing this a long time and she's trying to get him to trust her.

Satisfaction Guaranteed: Talia is a girl made by a machine that makes perfect, flawless children. She embodies an old-school, stereotypical little girl, much like a doll that has come to life. She is every parent's dream.

When You Wish Upon A Star: In this show opener, the fairies-in-training, who are learning how to be fairies under the Blue Fairy's tutelage, set the stage for how fairies, magic, and wishes work. This is a graceful, breezy song that welcomes the audience into the story of the show. Perform the whole cut as a fairy-in-training, teaching the audience about the rules of magic.

Audition Video Tips

  • Introduce yourself at the beginning of your video. Say hi, tell us your name, and tell us what song you are singing. This is called your "slate" and is a way for the audition panel to see who you really are and what your personality is like. Say "Thank you!" at the end of your audition.
  • Make sure you have good lighting. Don't perform in front of a bright exterior window. Lighting should highlight you and your face.
  • Line the lens of your camera up to be level with your eyes. Don't film from above or below.
  • Dress up for your audition and present your best self.
  • Stand up for your audition, if possible. Don't perform seated or laying down. Standing helps energize your performance.
  • Remember to perform as if you are in front of hundreds of people. When filming video auditions it is easy to make your performance smaller and more intimate, but perform like you've got a giant audience.
  • Make sure the music isn't so loud that it overpowers your voice. On the video, your voice should be what comes through the loudest.
  • Don't forget to act! A singing audition video serves to show both your vocal and acting abilities. Become the character you are performing as.
  • Not a strong singer? Sell your talent to us through your acting!
  • Is your video not perfect? That's fine - no one's is! We know recording a video audition is tough. The main thing we're looking for is to see you, your personality, and your talent.
