LOOK WHAT IS NEW !

INTENSIVES
We will be offering a one weekend intensive EACH session as an alternative to the 9-week class! Students ages 14 & up can sign up for a fall, winter or spring intensive and qualify to audition for a main stage production during that same session. The intensive will offer the same amount of hours of theater training as a 9-week class, only over the course of a weekend. There will be a showcase at the end of the weekend. Each intensive will have a focus on dance, singing, acting or musical theater performance. Intensives are first come, first serve. Students are welcome to take an intensive in addition to a session class as well. This new format offers a great opportunity for those students who want to audition for shows but are busy during the week all school year with other school obligations or dance studio classes. They are also a great supplement for those who are looking for more training. We will still offer our regular 9-week class options as well. Cost $215.

ADVANCED PERFORMANCE ACADEMY CLASS (3 session full year committment, Tues 6:45-8:45pm, ages 15-19)
If you choose this class, you will register and pay for the fall portion. You will then be automatically added to the winter and spring portions with a balance due added to your account. Payment in full wlll be due before the classs begins each session. THIS CLASS IS AUDITION ONLY. Applicants should send in an audition video and an application by July 10. CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION. The video should include a slate (name of applicant and introduction of pieces), 30 seconds - 1 minute of a musical theater song, and 1-2 minutes of a monologue. It is preferred that the monologue is from a play, but not required. We will inform applicants if they have been accepted by July 13 (2 days before class registration begins. They will have 24 hours to accept or decline so that we can give their spot to the next person if needed.

Fall Session: Musical Theater Training. We will work on acting through singing using solo and group material. We will work through monologing songs, 'filling the air' and listening as well as how to use the musical cues from the composer to inform the acting. We will also spend some time each class doing a dance based physical warm up to increase strength, flexibility and dance basics. At the end of the session we will present a musical review during showcase.
Winter Session: We will work on acting techniques such as Meisner and Stanislovsky as well as script analysis and character development. We will use our play script as a vehicle for all of our work, so that all of this work can be applied to the practical application of our play. Winter showcase will include acting exercises, and a few short scenes.
Spring Session: Rehearsal. We will use these classes to block and rehearse a full length play. During rehearsal we will build on all of the exercises, technique and analysis taught through the first two sessions to create layered and believable characters on stage. We will perform the play outside of the spring showcase spot, so that we can do a full play.

NEW SPRING SHOW FORMAT with 2 SUMMER SHOWS!
Our spring show schedule has changed, or rather gone back in time to the way we first presented Les Mis Masters Camp in 2008! We will offer one spring show for all ages to audition for, Disney My Son Pinocchio, and then have our Masters Camp rehearsal and production of Godpell in late June after school is out for ages 14 &up. We are looking to make this our new spring format for years to come and offer Masters Camp EACH June. Students ages 14 & up have the option to do both shows, or choose just one, and the graduates will have the time to do Masters Camp before heading off to college later that summer. At the end of the summer in August, we will continue our tradition of Show Camp for the middle school students.

CLASS CATALOG LISTING FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR - POSTED BY SUNDAY, JULY 5. This way you can strategically plan out your year at CharacterWorks!

THEATER ARTS CLASSES

A wide variety of core classes in drama, voice, dance, and specialty classes are offered each semester.  Each class lasts for two-hours and runs for 9 weeks. During the final class week, a ten minute "SHOWCASE" of what they accomplished during the semester is presented by each class for the other students as well as family and friends. Every student participates in the showcase and has a chance to perform!  Students enrolled in classes are then eligible to audition for the current main-stage production.

Classes are a great way for students to gain valuable theater arts training, develop confidence and make life-long friends!

Children ages 4 -19 may register . The cost for a 9-week session is $215 per student. A $25 sibling discount is offered (second child $190, third child $165, etc.)  The $215 tuition fee includes a class t-shirt and weekly snacks.

Classes currently meet 3 different nights in the Richmond area for each 9 week session:
Mondays (5:00 - 7:00pm) at KingsWay Community Church (Midlothian)
     Tuesdays (4:30 - 6:30 OR 6:45 - 8:45pm) at Gayton Baptist Church (West End)
