NEW 2020 Guidelines - Outdoor Performance of "Getting to Know... The Sound of Music" Musical
Here are ways CharacterWorks’ shows are specifically adapting to current circumstances:
Auditions, Callbacks, Casting, & Rehearsal
- CWorks’ fall musical, Getting To Know… The Sound of Music, will feature a reduced cast size (24 per cast) and will be double-cast (two casts) in order to include more students. The show will utilize outdoor rehearsals in small groups.
- Weather permitting, auditions and callbacks will be conducted outdoors. If weather prohibits meeting outdoors, auditions and callbacks will be conducted in the largest indoor space available.
- Auditions will be conducted in-person. Only the artistic team and the one student auditioning will be allowed in the audition room at a time. Parents will not be permitted to watch their students audition.
- Students can remove their face masks when auditioning.
- Callbacks will be conducted in small groups. Masks can be removed when singing, dancing, or performing a scene. Students will be required to maintain 6-10 feet of social distancing throughout callbacks, depending on the needs of the specific callback. More details on callbacks will be included in the callback list after auditions.
- Snacks will not be for sale at rehearsal. Please bring your own snack and a water bottle.
Tech Rehearsals and Performances
- Performers will be able to remove their masks when on stage outdoors as long as 10 feet of social distancing can be maintained.
- The staging of each show will be structured in order to maintain social distancing onstage and in high traffic areas like the backstage hallway and dressing rooms.
- The costuming of each show will be limited in order to reduce the number of costume changes.
- Hair and makeup needs will be minimized or be self-done by cast members or their families.
- Individual microphones will be assigned to cast members. Mics will be thoroughly cleaned after each performance.
- Cast members and volunteers will be required to wear a face mask in backstage areas at all times.
- Volunteer positions will be limited in order to reduce the number of people backstage or in the greenroom.
Audience Experience
- With the show being performed outdoors, patrons will not be required to wear masks. However, masks will be required by patrons to use the indoor restrooms.
- All ticketing will be general admission. Patrons will bring their own outdoor chairs. Seating is available first-come, first serve. Patron households will be seated 6 feet apart from one another.
- Show programs will be paperless. Scan a QR code at the theater to view the program. Cast members will be given printed souvenir programs in their usual show swag bags.
- Hand sanitizer will be available at the performance venue.
- Refreshments will no longer be provided in the theater lobby.
- All doors will be propped open as circumstances permit.
- Water fountains will be unavailable.
- High-contact surfaces, including door handles and restrooms, will be cleaned before and after each performance.
